About Island Acres Resort
Welcome to Island Acres, a renovated American icon—a hidden gem in a quiet neighborhood. Island Acres has an amazing story to tell, character to share, and charm to enchant all of her guests.
This Gunnison icon was purchased by family members in 2006 with a fresh vision for the vintage property. The new owners of Island Acres embraced the “resort motel” or “boutique motel” concept, where units are individually decorated and the focus is on fun. Visitors enjoy traditional hospitality rather than modern day uniformity, a relaxed atmosphere and a community of people interested in the same. Guests not only have a more comfortable stay but also a unique and memorable experience.
We have made it our mission to marry the vintage 1950’s charm of Island Acres while highlighting our Gunnison past. Units feature high quality furnishings and have been newly renovated. Mixed in, you will find chrome and Formica tables, vintage curtains and lamps but with modern amenities like larger, more comfortable beds and wireless access. And everything is squeaky clean.
With over three acres of treed property, the units at Island Acres Resort Motel have a cabin-like feel but in a more traditional motel setting. Guests can experience the vacation-friendly “front porch” enjoyed by early automotive travelers. Just outside your window, 100 year old cottonwood trees, easy access to the river, fire pits and the mountain view all remind you of the beauty that surrounds you in Gunnison.
Since 1954, Island Acres has been playing host to families, athletes, hunters, fishermen, and outdoorsmen alike. A bit of Gunnison’s unique history still lives “between the bridges.” We invite you to share in the happiness to be found hidden in the Colorado mountains and rivers here at Island Acres.
