Welcome to Bird Watching at Island Acres

Island Acres Resort Motel is located just west of Gunnison off Highway 50 across from the Gunnison Whitewater Park. As the name suggests, it is in fact an “island” that sits quite literally on the Gunnison River. That means it’s surrounded by water and healthy vegetation, making it a haven for all types of wildlife, including a large variety of bird species. It is because of our proximity to the river that Island Acres is such a treat for bird watching.

Situated within a friendly neighborhood, Island Acres Resort provides an ideal bird watching walk via the dirt roads that surround our property. Just across the highway, the Gunnison Whitewater Park provides even more walking paths for those looking to venture a bit further on their bird watching stroll. Recently, we had some guests share an incredible report of all the bird species they spotted during their stay.

In addition to sharing that list here, we’ll also cover some tips for bird watchers visiting Island Acres and the surrounding area to help you make the most of your bird watching adventures during your stay here in Gunnison Country. Continue reading below to come along for the journey that is bird watching at Island Acres!
